VCA Antech is the largest provider of high quality veterinary services in the country. We started in 1986 with VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital and currently own and operate over 435 hospitals in 38 states. In 2005, we treated over 4.9 million pets. VCA also operates Antech Diagnostics, the largest
veterinary clinical laboratory system. With daily laboratory
service to over 17,000 small animal hospitals and their unique
program, Antech Advantage, we help provide health care to
a majority of the nation's pets.
VCA's strategy for the future is to acquire and manage high
quality veterinary hospitals while providing the best possible
veterinary care to our client's pets.
Equipment, drugs and supplies are ordered at the hospital
level through a network of VCA buying contracts and purchasing
agreements. The central office in Los Angeles, CA, performs
all the functions related to payroll, accounting, legal services,
accounts receivable, computer support and marketing. A team
of managers including the Medical Director, Office Manager
and Technical Supervisor run the hospitals on the local level.
A Regional Vice President, Regional Medical Director and District
Manager help to coordinate and assist this team in the VCA
network.

VCA employs over 1600 full time veterinarians, including over 170 board certified specialists. These numbers will continue to grow as VCA grows. An additional 80+ specialists work as consultants through VCA's Antech Diagnostics Laboratory network. These specialists are board certified in the disciplines of internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, radiology, emergency and critical care, and clinical pathology. Many of our generalists have specific areas of interest (e.g., dentistry, avian and exotic medicine, behavior medicine) and are encouraged to continue their education. VCA operates 15 internship programs at hospitals in Denver, CO, Loveland, CO, Albuquerque, NM, Berwyn, IL, Aurora, IL, Newark, DE, Gaithersburg, MD, Los Angeles, CA, Rancho Cordova, CA, New York City, NY, San Diego, CA, Weymouth, MA, Seattle, WA, and Phoenix, AZ. Over 80 interns participate in these programs each year making VCA the largest provider of private practice internships in the US.
